In conjunction with construction of the North 89 Pathway, Westwood Curtis Construction built a tunnel crossing 4 lanes of Highway 89. The tunnel was necessary to provide better access to the National Museum of Wildlife Art adjacent to the National Elk Refuge. Workers built the tunnel in day and night shifts to complete the job faster and limit the amount of traffic control and congestion associated with highway work. The construction process included excavation, dewatering, retaining walls, guardrail, fencing, underdrain systems, geogid mat, paving and extensive traffic delineation.
